Miss Teen Texas International 2015 Savannah Wahrer

Top 10 at Miss Teen International 2015

Many animal lovers consider the pets in their lives members of their own family. For Miss Teen Texas International Savannah Wahrer, that was quite literally her reality: growing up among 16 dogs (many of them foster and rescue dogs), a brother and her parents, Savannah's family has always been a close-knit pack that supports animal welfare. Savannah's passion for animals started when she was very young, and she and her human family have always enjoyed their four-legged family members.

As Miss Teen Texas International, Savannah's platform, Saving Our Best Friends, is to promote pet adoption, educate on the importance of spaying and neutering, encourage shelter canines being used as therapy dogs, and organize fundraisers and supply drives to benefit animal shelters. Savannah regularly volunteers her time at shelters, work she very much enjoys. By working directly with dogs and cats, Savannah is able to contribute to their health and well-being and help prepare them to be adopted. For Savannah, these needy animals are like family -- and she encourages everyone to consider adoption when adding animals to their own family.

Savannah is involved with Friends For Life, MADE In Texas Assistance Dogs organization, Pawsitively Sharing Aloha, Dallas Pets Alive organization and local animal shelters. During her reign, she is committed to continuing to advocate for the health and welfare of homeless pets and helping them to find their "fur-ever" homes.

As an advocate for the Go Red for Women movement from the American Heart Association, Savannah is also committed to encouraging a healthy lifestyle for other teens and their families. Her favorite family event is prepping for and planting the vegetable seeds in the family's large backyard garden, which is 100 percent organic, from the seeds to the soil. Savannah loves being able to walk outside and pick the food that she and her family will eat that day for dinner.

A native Texan, Savannah is a sophomore at Aledo High School, where she has served as a junior varsity cheerleader, helping to support her school's football team to a 5A state championship. Her favorite subject is math and she has enjoyed learning geometry. Her plans after graduating high school include attending Texas A&M University to pursue studies in forensic science, a field that interests Savannah.

Savannah enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling to DisneyWorld, and watching matinee movies every Sunday afternoon after church.  She is a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, where she is active in the high school youth group.  Savannah is looking forward to volunteering to help the younger kids this summer during vacation bible school this summer. Savannah and her family live in Fort Worth.
